a river of stones - Jan 29 2012

no matter how much care
is taken when mowing the lawn,
there are always two
and only two
dandelions left standing

Thursday, January 26, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 26 2012

gale force winds,
at the traffic lights
cars rock
to nature’s beat

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 25 2012

the surrounding hills are not there, the morning mist lingers still
sea birds swoop and dive, freely above the becalmed harbour
my eyes create my world, birds exist but the hills can never be.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 24 2012

clear night sky
and still no moon
a chorus of birds
erupts in the early evening
blissfully unperturbed
by the dragon’s arrival

sun in the puddle
sun in the window
sun in the sky
so many suns yet —
forecast for rain

a river of stones - Jan 21 2012

examining tea leaves,
the only future
that is certain –
is theirs

a river of stone - Jan 20 2012

walking past the noisy

the teenager

he finishes an email,
grabs his mobile phone
and coat
before leaving

a river of stones - Jan 18 2012

on top of the hotel
various country’s flags
flapping violently together
but independently
determining their own use
of the wind to gain prominence

a river of stones - Jan 17 2012

morning sun reflects
off the observatory
exposed by
the day-time sky

a river of stones - Jan 16 2012

driving into the City,
to my left —

the calm clear harbour,
to my right —

the frantic blur of traffic

Sunday, January 15, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 15 2012

searching the shelves
at the hardware store
for cleaning products,
the dust
makes me sneeze

a river of stones - Jan 14 2012

clouds speed
across the sky —
the absense of bird song

Friday, January 13, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 13 2012

I stand outside
looking in –
a fly lands on the inside
of an open window

Thursday, January 12, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 12 2012

watching the morning sun
come over the distant hills
I ponder,
is it rising,
or,
are we descending?

a river of stones - Jan 11 2012

once a status symbol,
the BMW
travels backward
behind a tow truck

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

a river of stones - Jan 10 2012

a mere
shadow
of me –
my
shadow

yet
in the glow
of the
lamp

it grows bolder and I  become a shadow of it

Friday, January 6, 2012

river of stones - Jan 6 2012

leaves provided life
through photosynthesis
and now dead
they decay and nourish
the trees that gave them birth

surely leaves
are the noblest
of all living organisms

strong northerly
shakes the cell tower –
voices carried by the wind

river of stones - Jan 4 2012

reading Kerouac’s  “Dharma Bums”,
concentration broken
by a bird
breaking a snail shell on my roof

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

river of stones - Jan 3 2012

lawn mower in for repairs,
my lawn bristles
like a little boy
finding the barbershop closed

river of stones - Jan 2 2012

the wind conducts an orchestra
of rustling leaves and bird song
while at the end of the street
a child tries desperately
to make his crying sound sincere

a river of stones - Jan 1 2012

New Year's Day -
rain falls
from last year's clouds
